A Life Built Around Creativity

I've always been a creative person. Long before I became a full-time artist, I spent years working as a creative director in advertising and publishing. My career revolved around ideas, design, storytelling, and finding ways to connect with people.

But painting eventually became something much bigger than a creative outlet. It became my life's work.

In 2007, I discovered the world of live performance painting after watching the incredible Denny Dent. I was fascinated by the idea of creating a painting in front of an audience, combining music, movement, energy, and art into one experience.

I decided to give it a try.

In the summer of 2008, Artbeat Live was born, and what started as an experiment would eventually take me to places I never imagined.

From a Canvas to the World Stage

Over the years, I've had the opportunity to perform at some pretty remarkable events, including the Olympic Games, NHL playoff games, the Kentucky Derby, professional sporting events, corporate celebrations, and hundreds of charity fundraisers across the country.

I've painted in front of thousands of people, creating large-scale works of art in just minutes, often choreographed to music.

It's an unusual way to make a living, and I still find it amazing that something I love doing has taken me to so many places and introduced me to so many wonderful people.

But of all the experiences I've had, the charitable events have always meant the most.

Through Artbeat Live, my paintings have helped raise more than $5 million for nonprofit organizations. I've had the privilege of working with more than 300 charities, supporting causes that make a real difference in people's lives.

When I started painting live, I never imagined a canvas, some paint, and a little music could have that kind of impact.

Finding My Own Artistic Voice

In 2012, I made the decision to become a full-time artist.

While live performance painting became a big part of my career, I've always loved the freedom of creating artwork in my studio, without an audience, a clock, or any expectations.

My paintings have evolved into colorful abstracts, expressive florals, and landscapes inspired by the world around me.

I don't consider myself an artist who follows a lot of rules. I paint intuitively, allowing colors, shapes, and ideas to develop naturally.

Some of my paintings are bold and energetic. Others are quiet and reflective. But they all come from the same place: the simple enjoyment of creating something.

I've never been interested in making art overly complicated. I want people to experience a painting, connect with it, and hopefully feel something positive when they see it.

My philosophy has always been pretty simple.

I Just Paint.

A New Chapter in Asheville

In 2024, my wife, Trish, and I moved to Asheville, North Carolina, surrounded by the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The following year, I opened Artbeat Gallery & Lounge in downtown Asheville, a working studio and gallery where visitors can see my paintings, meet me, ask questions, and experience art in a relaxed environment.

It's become a place where I can spend my days doing what I enjoy most: painting.

After years of traveling across the country for performances, I've come to appreciate the simple pleasure of being in my studio, creating new work, and connecting with people who enjoy art.

I still perform live, and I always will. But I've also started thinking about how I can continue supporting charitable organizations in a different way.

That thinking led to The Giving Canvas.

Why I Created The Giving Canvas

For nearly 18 years, I've traveled to fundraising events, created paintings live, and watched those paintings go on to raise money for incredible organizations.

I've seen firsthand how generous people can be when they're supporting a cause they believe in.

But I also realized something: I don't necessarily have to be standing on a stage for my artwork to make a difference.

Recently, I tried something new at a charity event. Instead of attending in person, we offered a custom painting experience during the live auction, supported by a short video introducing my work.

It was a simple idea, but it opened my eyes to an entirely new possibility.

What if I could help more nonprofits raise money without the expense and logistics of bringing me to their events?

What if supporters could bid on an original commissioned painting or even a private live painting performance, knowing that their purchase would also benefit a charitable cause?

That's why I created The Giving Canvas.

It's a way to take everything I've learned over nearly two decades of painting and fundraising and make it available to charitable organizations across the country.

The concept is simple. Nonprofits can offer one of my original art experiences at their live auctions without purchasing artwork upfront. When the experience sells, we share the eligible auction proceeds equally.

The charity raises money, the winning bidder receives something personal and unique, and I get to keep doing what I love.

Art Is Meant to Be Enjoyed

I've always believed art should be approachable.

You don't need to understand art history or know anything about painting to appreciate a piece of artwork. Sometimes a painting just makes you smile, reminds you of a place, or brings a little color into your life.

That's enough for me.

Whether I'm painting in my Asheville studio, performing in front of thousands of people, or creating a custom piece for someone who supported a charity auction, my goal remains the same.

To create something meaningful, share a little joy, and hopefully make a difference along the way.

I'm Elliott From. I'm an artist. And I just paint.
